Associate Vice President, Capital Projects

Requisition # 2017-8127
Department VP for Facilities, Office of
Category Facilities Management and Physical Plant
Full-Time / Part-Time Full-Time
Application Deadline

Overview

Princeton University Facilities Department seeks an accomplished and collaborative leader for the newly created position of Associate Vice President, Capital Projects. Reporting to the Vice President for Facilities, the Associate Vice President (AVP) will be responsible for managing the University's capital projects from project inception and design phases through commissioning and closeout, as well as for directing its real estate activities. As Princeton embarks on a major new multi-year capital program, the AVP will establish a strategic and integrated approach to developing the University's on- and off-campus space and facilities - academic, administrative, and student-life related - and will thereby strengthen its management of the extraordinary physical resources it leverages to advance its academic mission.

Responsibilities

Princeton is concluding a comprehensive planning process that will produce a 10-year campus plan developed within a 30-year framework for the University's evolution. The new capital plan will guide development from FY 2017 through FY 2026 and calls for significant ongoing investment in existing and new physical assets and for ongoing commitment to the sustainable development and operation of the campus. The new plan is expected to continue the level of capital investment achieved during Princeton's prior decade, which was roughly $300M/year.

The AVP will lead the development of best-in-class capital projects delivery by designing and managing efficient, effective, collaborative and transparent processes to align internal and external project participants and by leading a high-performing professional staff of architects, engineers, project managers, and support staff. The AVP is also responsible for directing Princeton's real-estate development activities, including leading strategic planning efforts and oversight of acquisition, sale, and leasing of all Princeton's real property assets. This includes management, construction, and financing of all real-estate projects and collaborations with private development partners. The AVP leads a staff of approximately 60 professionals with a wide range of relevant skills

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience including planning and design management and implementation of multi-year capital programs (experience with a university is preferred).
  • Demonstrated success in leadership of real estate organizations, contract law, and business finance and demonstrated ability to manage the programming and design of large, complex facilities projects
  • Undergraduate degree in architecture, engineering, planning, real estate, business finance, or a related field
  • A current professional license or certification as an architect, engineer, planner, or a real estate professional is highly desirable.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to provide effective communication within and outside of the department.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and a track record of creating a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming professional environment.
