Position Summary:
The Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise ( HNFE , http://hnfe.vt.edu) invites applications for an academic year, non-tenure-track collegiate faculty position at the assistant professor level. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in exercise physiology/science and/or nutrition, or a closely related field at the time of appointment. Collegiate faculty members have a primary commitment to the instructional mission of the department, including graduate and undergraduate teaching, curricular and program development, and the design and integration of innovative and inclusive pedagogy including experience learning opportunities. Successful candidates should provide evidence of potential to take a lead role in enhancing curricula and promoting teaching excellence. Candidates are also expected to participate in departmental and university service activities including but not limited to committees and community outreach.
HNFE is actively involved in many university initiatives such as the Howard Hughes Medical Institute grant for inclusive pedagogy, the Adaptive Brain and Behavior Destination Area (http://provost.vt.edu/destination-areas/da-brain.html), and the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute Center for Transformative Research on Health Behaviors. As such, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in transdisciplinary pedagogy research, curriculum, and/or outreach initiatives with other university faculty working in these initiatives. The Adaptive Brain and Behavior ( ABB ) destination area focuses on the transdisciplinary study of brain plasticity as it pertains to decision-making, physical and psychological trauma, and healthy development across the lifespan. Individuals with interests and skills in both nutrition, exercise, and health at the interface between brain and behavior are strongly encouraged to apply. The candidate is expected to remain current in exercise, physical activity, nutrition and related fields, as well as serve on departmental, college, or university committees as a contributing member of the department and the broader university community.

• leading curricular innovation and transformation
• engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning in HNFE
• mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and identities
• continuing development of professional capabilities and scholarly activities, including travel to professional conferences; participation in department, college, and university governance; and professional service
• enhancing experiential learning opportunities for students in HNFE

Required Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in exercise physiology and/or nutrition, or a closely related field;
• Experience in higher education instructional and pedagogy activities with strong potential for being a leader in the instructional mission;
• Demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching and strong potential for graduate teaching;
• Commitment to teach and advise a diverse student body;
• Strong Written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Referred publications in higher education instructional and pedagogical research;
• Demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary teaching in areas that align with Virginia Tech's university-wide, multi-disciplinary focus on Adaptive Brain and Behavior.
