Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Surgery at Loyola University Health System seeks an exceptional individual to join the Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Burns Division. Fellowship training in surgical critical care and burn surgery, as well as board certification in general surgery, are required. This is a full-time faculty position. The selected candidate will be at the rank of Assistant Professor. The expectation for the position will include call and coverage of both burn surgery and trauma/acute care surgery.

Loyola is a busy Level 1 trauma center and ACS / ABA -verified Burn Center located in Maywood, on the western edge of Chicago. The Burn Center admits over 750 patients annually, and also has over 4,000 patient visits per year in burn clinic. The Division has an active Acute Care Surgery Service with around the clock in-house attending presence. The clinical and educational programs are closely aligned with the Burn Shock Trauma Research Institute ( BSTRI ). The BSTRI programs include ongoing basic, translational and clinical trial activities in wound healing, acute kidney injury, fracture healing and alcohol-associated injuries. Funding within the BSTI in addition to NIH and DOD etc. totals $3.3M (FY16). Loyola is currently ranked #29 nationally in NIH funding among departments of surgery. In recent years, the Loyola Department of Surgery has significantly expanded, with recruitment of new faculty and reconstituted programs in: transplant, plastic surgery, colorectal surgery, minimally invasive/bariatric surgery, HPB , vascular and trauma surgery.

LUHS includes a core academic hospital (Loyola University Medical Center) located on its main campus in Maywood, a community hospital (Gottlieb Memorial Hospital) located three miles from the main campus in Melrose Park, and an extensive network of more than 28 specialty and primary care centers in the Chicago suburbs. LUHS is home to approximately 7,000 staff members, 650 full-time faculty members, and 600 residents and fellows.
