Assistant Director, Upward Bound Programs

Assistant Director, Upward Bound Programs

The Assistant Director for the Upward Bound (TRiO) programs is a 12-month position serving low-income, first generation youth with activities and guidance to provide opportunies for precollegiate academic success. The Upward Bound programs assist students in gaining the knowledge and skills required to graduate from high school, and enroll in and graduate from post-secondary institutions.

Medaille College has two Upward Bound Programs: Upward Bound Classic & Upward Bound Math Science. This position works cooperatively with colleagues in both programs, Buffalo Public School district staff, and local partners to recruit and select eligible participants, advise a caseload of participants, and design intrusive services, including tutoring, financial aid, and college preparatory guidance.

Bachelor's degree with emphasis in psychology, education, or closely related field required; Master's degree preferred. Must possess at least two years of leadership experience in an education or youth services related field. Must possess at least one year of experience working with 9th-12th grade low-income disadvantaged youth, and have knowledge of the financial aid process, postsecondary admissions procedures, and community relations. Preference will be given to individuals with backgrounds similar to the target population. STEM experience is highly desired.
