Undergraduate Program Specialist

Position Summary:
Undergraduate Program Specialist in the Department of Apparel, Housing, and Resource Management works independently to administer and manage the Department's undergraduate program by providing administrative and program support for the department's five (5) majors. The successful candidate must have a service-oriented attitude and concern for students to support the Department's undergraduate program and be a forward thinking person who can anticipate and address problems and see new opportunities to enhance the undergraduate program. Responsibilities of this position include:
- Performing administrative tasks to support students completing degree requirements such as processing grade changes, department force-adds, applying transfer credits and changing majors.
- Referring students to appropriate faculty for academic and career counseling.
- Performing Graduation Analyses for all majors, notifying students of future needs to complete degree, and assisting students with their academic plans and course selection.
- Monitoring students' degree progress via Degree Auditing Reporting System ( DARS ).
- Providing reports on student information as needed to the Department Administrators.
- Managing and processing student records, assigning faculty advisors, and maintaining databases of student information.
- Helping organize all aspects of summer orientation and make-up sessions for freshman, transfer and international students.
- Supporting department recruiting strategies, to include providing informational materials and in-person contact with potential students.
- Maintaining and enhancing knowledge of relevant software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and other pertinent software.
- Provide office assistance to other staff as needed, and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Administrative and/or student support experience in an academic or professional office environment.
- Working knowledge/expertise of undergraduate program policies in higher education.
- Experience with software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat.
- Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and follow University, FERPA , and department guidelines.
- Excellent communication, organizational, time management, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse population of students.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and set work priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Academic experience such as work in the areas of recruiting, student services, and curriculum processes.
- Database knowledge such as Banner, Hokie SPA , JIRA , Banner Document Management ( BDM ), and SPOT software.
- Experience with managing social media.
