Applications received subsequent to the second consideration date (November 30, 2017) may not be given full consideration. _________________________________________ The University of Rhode Island seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Spanish and Teacher Education, beginning Fall 2018. The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment between the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures and the School of Education. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Teach the Methodology of Teaching World Languages course for undergraduates and master's level candidates. Supervise world language student teachers and teach accompanying seminar Teach Spanish courses across the entire spectrum of the undergraduate curriculum. Teach Spanish graduate courses with special emphasis on teaching methods and second language acquisition. Establish and maintain a research agenda; publish books and/or peer-reviewed scholarly papers. Provide leadership in a CAEP nationally recognized World Language Teacher Preparation Program. Participate with the Spanish faculty in program promotion and extra-curricular activities as well as college and university service. Seek external funding where appropriate. Advise undergraduate and graduate students. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED : (1) Ph.D. in Hispanic Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Foreign Language Education or related field at the time of appointment. (2) Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English. (3) Demonstrated record of scholarly productivity commensurate with experience. (4) Evidence of teaching experience. (5) Must have held or be eligible for World Language Teacher Licensure. (6) Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills. (7) Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups. (8) Demonstrated strong interpersonal and oral communication skills. PREFERRED : (1) Evidence of at least two years experience in teaching Spanish in one or more of the following grade spans: Preschool - Grade 2, Grade 1-6, Grade 7-12.
