User Services Librarian (Reference/Instruction), Tenure-Track Faculty

MTSU's James E. Walker Library, User Services is seeking applicants for a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position (#401080) at the rank of assistant/associate professor. Must have ability to fulfill requirements for promotion and tenure. Start date for this position is July 1, 2018.

Under general direction of the Chair of User Services and the Team Leader for Reference and Instructional Services, the successful candidate will provide research assistance to users at Middle Tennessee State University's ( MTSU ) Walker Library. As a member of the Reference and Instruction Team, the candidate will also develop and lead general and subject specific library instruction courses to MTSU undergraduate and graduate students.

Ability to work creatively and effectively in a team environment to enhance library programs and services. Extensive knowledge of print and electronic research tools needed.

Ability to work selected mornings, evenings, and/or weekends. Demonstrated commitment to reference and user-centered services.

The successful candidate will develop and/or promote resources and collections designed to meet the information needs of MTSU students and faculty.
• Provide general and specialized reference service in person, via email, and through reference IM;
• Participate in other Reference and Instruction programs and projects, such as Research Coach (individual reference appointments);
• Serve as a subject liaison for developing resources and collections in the area of social sciences;
• Teach general library research classes to undergraduate and graduate students using two electronic classrooms. Develop customized supplementary materials/tools as needed for instruction sessions;
• Serve as a member of the Reference and Instruction Team;
• Maintain current knowledge of trends in reference and instruction;
• Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with faculty, students, and staff in support of campus teaching, learning, and student success;
• Participate as embedded librarian in online courses;
• Develop electronic research guides to facilitate online research;
• Participate in professional service and research activities in support of promotion and tenure requirements; and
• Serve on university and library committees, participate in local, regional, and national associations, and engage in research required for promotion and tenure.

Required Education
ALA accredited Master's degree by appointment date.

Required Related Experience
Minimum one year demonstrated experience with Library instruction to undergraduate and graduate students.

Required License/Registration/Certification

Candidates who posses the following will receive special considerations:
Familiarity with instructional and multimedia hardware and software applications; Knowledge of emergent trends in academic librarianship;
Prior library experience in an academic library setting; and
Undergraduate degree or second master's degree in a social sciences discipline.
