James E. Walker Library, Chair (Collection Development and Management), Tenure-

The James E. Walker Library at MTSU invites applicants for the position of Chair of Collection Development and Management at the rank of associate/professor. Tenure upon appointment considered. Publication and service record to meet tenure requirements of the position is necessary. This is a twelve month position with a possible start date for the position as early as January 1, 2018.

The Chair will work collaboratively with the Dean and Chair, User Services in achieving the goals and strategies of the Walker Library. Responsibilities of the chair will include providing strong academic leadership for the Department, representing the Department within the University and broader communities, managing resources and staff, facilitating planning and assessment.

Within the department, the Chair will develop policy, evaluate procedures, set annual goals for the department (Acquisitions, Cataloging, Serials, Discovery Services and Integrated Systems Librarian.) Oversees the evaluation of staff in the Collection Development and Management Department and evaluates unit heads, assures the process of tenure and promotion for the department. The Chair is responsible for the expenditure of the $4mil collection budget and sustaining a collection in support of the MTSU curriculum and research.

Successful candidate will have budget management experience, understanding of current trends in bibliographic control and scholarly communication; effective communication skills ability to work collaboratively across the library departments.

Required Education
ALA accredited master's degree by appointment date.

Required Related Experience
Minimum of five years academic or research library experience in a relevant functional area.

Required License/Registration/Certification
Other Desirable
Applicants with experience and/or understanding of issues within the area of discovery services and integrated library systems and/or those with knowledge of the role of Special/Rare book collections in an academic library will receive special consideration.
