Literacy, Tenure-Track Faculty

MTSU's Department of Elementary and Special Education invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#116240) at the assistant/associate professor rank. Start date for the position is August 1, 2018.

Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate reading methods courses and teaching in the Masters of Education in Literacy program. Other responsibilities include curriculum development, supervision of students in field-based placements, and collaborating with faculty across the Department. Expertise in literacy instruction, research, and literacy assessment is required.

Advising undergraduate and/or graduate students, university/college/department/professional service, and scholarly activity relevant to the candidate's discipline also are required.

Responsibilities also may include other teaching assignments in the Ed.D. and/or Ph.D. cohorts, based on the qualifications of the faculty and the needs of the department and college graduate programs. Teaching assignments may include courses that meet outside of normal business hours (some midweek and/or Friday evenings & weekends). Some courses meet off campus and may require travel (All program related travel is reimbursed per MTSU Travel Policies.).

Required Education
Doctorate in Literacy Education, Reading Education, Curriculum and Instruction with a Reading, Literacy and/or Language Arts concentration, or other closely related field by appointment date.

Required Related Experience
Three years of successful teaching experience in a public or private elementary and/or middle school setting.

Required License/Registration/Certification
Teaching license/endorsement or eligible for a license/endorsement as a reading specialist, literacy coach, or other literacy/reading speciality designation

Other Desirable
Applicants who possess the following will receive special consideration:

Record of excellence in teaching in higher education;
Successful experience mentoring pre-service teacher candidates and/or practicing teachers;
Demonstrated partnership efforts with elementary and/or middle schools;
Expertise in evidence-based literacy instruction and tiered interventions;
Evidence of a commitment to work with diverse educational settings.
