Office Manager

Serves as office manager for the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, performing administrative duties primarily for the chair and the chief departmental advisor but also handles various matters for all full-time faculty members (14), and approximately 10 adjunct faculty. Acts as receptionist, fiscal tech, troubleshooter, and department liaison to the bookstore, registrar, warehouse, scheduling, and other University offices.

Knowledge of effective customer service techniques. Effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to keep an office running smoothly. Demonstrated ability to deal with a diverse clientele. Demonstrated ability to provide support by word processing and database management, budget management, scheduling, and records systems. Demonstrated ability to lead and direct the work of others.

Education or training

Level and type of experience
Considerable administrative support and/or office management experience. Budget management experience required.

Preferred knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification
Extensive experience using Microsoft Office and other computer software. Knowledge of complex rules and regulations at Old Dominion University related to office management. Experience in an academic setting. Associate's degree or higher or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Conditions of Employment
The person hired in this position may be required to work approximately 3-4 evenings (maximum) and one half-day on a Saturday per academic year to assist with department or Institute for Ethics and Public Affairs ( IEPA ) events.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate
Salary range between $ - 25,718 - $31,211
