GENERAL INFORMATION: John Tyler Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and the fifth largest of the 23 community colleges in Virginia. With campuses in Chester and Midlothian in the metropolitan Richmond area and at off-campus classrooms throughout the area, John Tyler Community College provides quality educational opportunities that inspire student success and community vitality. RESPONSIBILITIES: Full-time, nine-month teaching position available for January 1, 2018 or August 16, 2018 to teach 100- and 200-level philosophy courses in face-to-face and online formats. Full-time responsibilities include teaching the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester. Teaching assignments may be at either campus and include a mixture of day, night, and online classes. Selected incumbent will participate in course and program development and assessment, advise students, assist adjunct faculty in the discipline area, and actively serve on division and college committees.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in philosophy from an accredited college or university, or equivalent with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in philosophy. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and demonstrated communication skills required. The successful candidate must be willing to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes with the ability to be flexible to work at any of the College's locations. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching introductory philosophy and ethics courses in two-year colleges; and experience with online teaching formats and instructional technology.
