Anesthesia Technician

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the anesthesiologist, calculate and administer drugs required for both small and large animal cases. Provide support for both routine and complex cases by setting up anesthesia delivery systems and maintaining patient monitoring support. Instruct and guide veterinary students in technical and manipulative skills. Supervise student's performance during case management. Clerical duties are also required such as organizing and scheduling anesthetic cases and maintaining departmental paperwork. Schedule will include on-call, evening, weekend and holiday shifts, as the Veterinary Teaching Hospital must provide 24 hour care for pets, 365 days of the year.

Required Qualifications:
Associates degree in Veterinary Technology, VA licensure or eligible to be a Licensed Veterinary Technician ( LVT ). Extensive knowledge of all anesthesia supplies, equipment and monitoring; Ability to place intravenous catheters and to perform endotracheal intubation in veterinary patients. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about learning and being a team player as well as possessing the ability to work independently and professionally in a fast paced environment. Must be able to handle multiple tasks, pay close attention to details and be willing to help without being asked. Physical demands of the position include, but are not limited to, stressful situations, prolonged periods of standing, lifting and restraining animals that may exceed 75 pounds. Rabies prophylaxis will be required (provided by employer).

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of CPR highly desired. Experience in anesthesia, emergency or intensive care in a veterinary medical setting. Equine and farm animal experience desirable, as you will be trained in both large and small animal hospitals.
