Assistant Professor-Tenure System


Position Summary
The Department of Forestry at Michigan State University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-system position at the assistant professor rank with a focus in Forest Resource Economics (40% research, 30% teaching, 30% extension). We seek an outstanding and innovative scientist to identify and address issues related to economic aspects of managing forest ecosystems. The incumbent will contribute to the Department's focal areas of forest economics and management through research on the application of economic principles and approaches to problems of sustainable management of forest resources for an array of social objectives.

Possible areas of expertise include (but are not limited to) economic analysis of: various forest management and silvicultural practices; wood products and forest carbon markets; ecosystem services and non-timber forest products; forest property taxation and estate planning; and management of (and for) fire and other natural processes. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally-recognized research program by securing competitive external funding, publishing in leading peer-reviewed journals, and advancing our understanding of economic aspects of the management of forested ecosystems. The successful candidate will annually teach an advanced undergraduate course in Forest Resource Economics and management (FOR 462) and is expected to teach a graduate course that contributes to the Department's graduate learning objectives. Extension responsibilities could include stakeholder-engaged research and developing forest economics programs for both public and private forest stakeholders. Responsibilities also include recruiting and training graduate students, undergraduate mentoring, and Department, College, University, and professional service.

The position will be based at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI, USA. Required Degree
Doctorate -Forestry, Natural Resources, Urban Ecolo

Minimum Requirements
An earned Ph.D. in Forestry Economics or related fields. Applicants should have a record or demonstrated ability for scholarly activities including peer-reviewed journal articles and successful grant applications. Applicants also should have a demonstrated interest in teaching, outreach / extension, and working with under-represented groups.
