Position Summary:
The Program on Government and International Affairs ( GIA ) invites applications for a position in Global Security and Policy to begin in August 2018 at Virginia Tech's National Capital Region campus in the Washington D.C. metro area. This position will focus on the security dynamics created by new institutions and processes of global governance as these affect civil society, the economy, and government in the U.S.A. and abroad. Candidates should be able to work within the interdisciplinary setting of SPIA , which offers graduate degrees in International Affairs, Urban Planning, and Public Administration. The candidate will work with GIA students enrolled in our Master of Public and International Affairs ( MPIA ) degree as well as in our Ph.D. in Planning, Governance, and Globalization and the Washington Semester in Global Engagement. The position will be at the assistant or associate professor level. All applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand by the start date.

Required Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in hand by the start date in public affairs, political economy, political science, human geography, international relations, or a closely related discipline is required. Applicants must demonstrate the potential for developing a distinguished record of scholarly achievement, and an interest in developing experiential learning courses.

Preferred Qualifications:
We will prioritize candidates who are knowledgeable about more than one country or region of the world and can show experience with interdisciplinary teaching, experiential learning and research in areas that align with Virginia Tech's university-wide, multi-disciplinary focus on Integrated Security. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in transdisciplinary research, curriculum, and/or outreach initiatives with other university faculty working in the Integrated Security Destination Area. The Integrated Security Destination Area is focused on understanding and fostering a world in which individuals, institutions, and nations are secured by technology and social systems that follow ethical principles and promote values of social justice. Faculty working together in this area are bringing a transdisciplinary approach to the complex range of human and systems security challenges.
