Postdoctoral Associate

Position Summary:
The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology in the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech has an open part-time position for a Postdoctoral Associate. This position involves research, training graduate students, and laboratory management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage the laboratory and order supplies;
responsible for safety issues and EHS compliance
Assist graduate students in technical aspects of their work
Perform molecular procedures involving mutagenesis, cloning, DNA and RNA isolation, PCR , and reverse transcriptase PCR in bacteria
Isolate bacterial surface antigens, particularly polysaccharides
Perform immunological assays, such as ELIAS , western blotting, and cytokine kit assay
Work with animals, in particular mice, is helpful, but not required

Required Qualifications:
PhD degree in microbiology or related field with expertise in molecular biology and genetic manipulation of bacteria. Evidence of research in the areas of microbiology, and genetic engineering is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in immunology, experimental animal models of disease, vaccine development, and diagnostic test development is helpful
