Assistant or Associate Professor (CPAP)

Virginia Tech is a public land-grant university, committed to teaching and learning, research, and outreach to the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world. Building on its motto of Ut Prosim (that I may serve), Virginia Tech is dedicated to InclusiveVT-serving in the spirit of community, diversity, and excellence. We seek candidates who adopt and practice the Principles of Community, which are fundamental to our on-going efforts to increase access and inclusion, and to create a community that nurtures learning and growth for all of its members. Virginia Tech actively seeks a broad spectrum of candidates to join our community in preparing leaders for the world.

Position Summary:
Virginia Tech seeks a qualified, broadly trained individual to fill a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate level within the Center for Public Administration and Policy ( CPAP ). Though the areas of specialization are open, we are particularly interested in persons whose research and teaching expertise fall in the area of public management, broadly defined. Teaching responsibilities will include both introductory courses and advanced seminars supporting the CPAP's MPA and PhD degree programs. CPAP's faculty offer courses across three locations; courses may include students from Alexandria or Richmond in addition to Blacksburg. Travel between program locations may be involved. There are also opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching in collaboration with the other programs in the School of Public and International Affairs as well as across the campus.

Applicants must hold an earned PhD in public administration, political science, public policy, public management, or a related discipline by time of appointment in August 2018, and must demonstrate a commitment to building a strong research agenda and publication record.

Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching experience and an established publication record are preferred. Demonstrated commitment to community outreach and engagement, as is expected of faculty at a land-grant institution, is a plus. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in transdisciplinary research, curricular, and/or outreach initiatives with other university faculty across the University who are working to advance the human condition and society with better decisions through data, and collaborating at the intersection of scientific evidence, governance, and analysis toward translating scholarship into practice
