Postdoctoral Associate/Research Associate

Position Summary:
We invite applications for a postdoctoral scholar or research associate position (depending on experience) in High Energy Theoretical Physics and String Theory in the Department of Physics at Virginia Tech. The focus of the position is on string theory, including string compactifications, sigma models, F-theory, effective theories and string geometry and phenomenology.
This position is available starting from September 2018 and is renewable for up to two years (i.e. three years duration in total), depending on performance.
The primary duties of the position will consist of research in theoretical high energy physics, writing peer-reviewed publications and presenting research results to a wider research community both regionally and internationally. At the research associate level, this position will also entail collaboration with, as well as mentoring and supervision of junior researchers. Rank of position will be determined by qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
By the start date of the position, the successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics or Mathematical Physics. A strong background in string theory with a history of peer-reviewed publications is necessary.
In order to be considered for the research associate position, prior postdoctoral research experience is required.
Good collaborative skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Programming experience.
Ability to work under limited supervision.
For research associate position, some experience supervising junior researchers is preferred.
