Associate or Full Professor (Tenure Track), Higher Education and Student Affairs


The Department of Educational Leadership invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor for the Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) Master's Program beginning August 2018. The HESA program is a nationally recognized master's (MA) program that fosters intellectual and professional development of individuals seeking careers in higher education or student affairs administration. Through a cohort model, the program emphasizes a theory-to-practice approach by exposing students to contemporary research and experiential learning.

The University of Connecticut (UConn) is a comprehensive, land-grant university located two hours from New York City and 90 minutes from Boston. The Neag School of Education ( http://education.uconn.edu ) is ranked No. 27 among all graduate schools of education and No. 17 among public graduate schools of education in the nation according to U.S. News and World Report. The Neag School offers programs and courses on the main campus in Storrs and at the Hartford, Avery Point, and Waterbury campuses.

The Department of Educational Leadership has 22 full-time faculty members and offers degree programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. The department offers certificates and/or degrees in educational leadership; education policy; executive leadership; higher education and student affairs; and sport management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality scholarship within higher education and student affairs with an emphasis on leadership and administration in college and university environments or related areas; demonstrate a deep commitment and strong ability to integrate theory with practice, foster reflective learning, and facilitate dialogue across differences to prepare diverse master's cohorts for professional careers; broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their research, teaching, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learners and intellectual interests. Successful candidates should uphold and enact the program's commitment to issues of social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion . The responsibilities of this position also include effective teaching of master-level graduate students enrolled in HESA courses, advising HESA students, developing collegial relationships with the program's campus partners who provide assistantship and practicum opportunities, and participating in advancing programmatic goals and initiatives. The successful candidate will also be willing and able to provide service at the program, departmental, school, university, and national levels.

In addition to being a full-time faculty member within the HESA Program, the successful candidate will be a valuable member of the Department of Educational Leadership. Departmental opportunities will include, but are not limited to, recruiting and advising PhD students for the Learning, Leadership, and Education Policy program and serving on capstone committees for the EdD program .

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • An earned doctorate in higher education and student affairs or related field by the time of appointment;
  • Currently employed in a tenured position; and
  • Senior-level professional experience within higher education and student affairs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Sustained record of scholarship within higher education and student affairs;
  • Demonstrated evidence of or potential for securing grants;
  • Evidence of successful graduate-level teaching and advising;
  • Evidence of service contributions at the program, department, school, university, and national levels;
  • Evidence of commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion within higher education and student affairs;
  • Evidence of effectively mentoring junior faculty members;
  • Demonstrated record of effective student advising at master and doctoral levels;
  • Evidence of successful teaching within cohort-based programs;
  • Research agenda and teaching experience that complements program and department needs; and
  • Active leadership involvement with national organizations in the field (e.g. ASHE, AERA, ACPA, NASPA).

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2018. The successful candidate's academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Faculty may also be asked to teach at one of UConn's regional campuses as part of their ordinary workload. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
