Graphic Designer

Position Summary:
Collaborating with the Office of Summer and Winter Sessions' marketing team, the Graphic Designer is responsible for design, developing, and updating all visual communications required to drive enrollments for Virginia Tech Online Programs, Virginia Tech Summer and Winter Sessions and Virginia Tech Summer Academy. Responsibilities include art direction and production, in collaboration with the marketing team, to create initial concepts to final layouts, both in print and online. In addition, the graphic designer is responsible for all web design, web development, web updates, and web maintenance for all departmental websites, as determined by the marketing team. The graphic designer acts as the in-house photographer and videographer, and must be fluent in post-production editing for both mediums. The graphic designer manages all departmental social media channels, aligned with marketing team campaigns, and is responsible for creating and or curating engaging photography, videos, graphics and stories. Moreover, the graphic designer assists with all marketing efforts and events.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in art, communications, design, computer science, or a related field required or an equivalent level of training and experience. Significant experience in graphic design for print and web materials. Demonstrated expertise with computer graphic software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Pagemaker, InDesign, Quark, and/or FreeHand required. Demonstrated knowledge of Mac-based computers and video editing programs such as Final Cut, Pro Lightroom or other motion graphics software. Demonstrated web-site design and support activities. Demonstrated experience working with social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Vimeo, YouTube and/or Tumblr. Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, implement projects, and make independent decisions in a dynamic environment. Experience with successfully managing and prioritizing multiple tasks concurrently. Must be able to communicate directly with staff and faculty to understand needs and conceptualize appropriate visuals. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work well with various levels of University personnel. Ability to work independently within an intensive service-oriented group environment, with minimal supervision, and meet project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
Work experience in an extended learning and/or higher education environment. Advanced degree in communications design, computer science, information technology or related areas. Demonstrated experience with Google Analytic code. Experience and/or working as part of a communications team. Experience with university branding, publications guidelines and web style strongly desired.
