Facilities Grounds Manager

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Building and Grounds, provide management of daily operations, workload planning, and routine and preventive maintenance support for Grounds, Trash and Recycling, and Roadway and Sidewalk infrastructures for the Facilities Grounds Department. Develop prioritized work assignments with supervisors to ensure coordination with building/customer contacts and plan scheduled preventive maintenance and corrective actions. Oversee supervisor work assignments in accordance with the work order system's Standard Operating Procedures; recognize and resolve issues while maintaining productivity of assigned resources. Ensure the execution of work order assignments are completed in a timely and cost effective manner while coordinating with fellow facilities managers/supervisors and designated university contacts. Perform routine quality assurance inspections on assigned work. Continually evaluate and recommend improvements to current university grounds areas to include lawns, urban forested areas, finished beds, and hardscapes and roadways. Complete required administrative functions regarding work order flow, including data entry into the Facilities Work Order System. Ensure shop supervisors properly coordinate procurement and delivery of material to job sites in an efficient and effective manner. This position is designated as "Emergency Personnel".

Required Qualifications:
- Significant experience overseeing grounds care and maintenance, as well as roadway maintenance.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing both site-work and small infrastructure construction projects.
- Experience managing multiple tasks and projects.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Experience complying with City/State Building Codes and ADA Standards.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Excellent organizational and delegation skills; detailed oriented; and computer proficient.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse organization with strong communication skills and a proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.
- As "Emergency Personnel" must be available twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week to provide support during planned events or emergency situations (such as inclement weather) to include being physically on site if deemed necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Horticulture or related field.
- Related experience in a large, complex organization.
- Previous experience working with a Computerized Maintenance Management System ( CMMS ) or computerized work order system.
- Experience with Virginia State & Virginia Tech procurement policies and procedures.
-Training or Certification as a Virginia Cooperative Extension ( VCE ) Master Gardener and/or Arborist.
