Applications received subsequent to the second consideration date (November 15, 2017) may not be given full consideration. _________________________________________ The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of German with specialization in German for Professional Purposes (e.g. Engineering, Business, Sciences) to begin Fall 2018. The successful candidate will provide critical support in teaching, research and service to the university's renowned German International Engineering, Business and Computer Science programs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Teach German courses across the entire spectrum of the undergraduate curriculum with special emphasis on German for Professional Purposes. Establish and maintain a solid research program. Contribute through service to the missions of the German Section, the German International Engineering Program, the College and the University. Contribute to the development and expansion of the curriculum for interdisciplinary models of German language teaching. QUALIFICATIONS Required: 1. Ph.D. in German/German Studies, Second Language Acquisition, Applied Linguistics or related field at the time of appointment. 2. Near native or native proficiency in German and English. 3. Demonstrated experience in teaching German at the college level in the U.S. 4. Demonstrated record of scholarly productivity commensurate with experience. PREFERRED : 1. Demonstrated experience in the teaching of German for Professional Purposes. 2. Demonstrated experience in the assessment of proficiency. 3. Demonstrated experience in curriculum- and materials development in German for Professional Purposes. 4. Demonstrated experience in technological applications for language learning, and/or use of online platforms for course delivery. 5.
