Engagement Officer

Title Position Reports To: Director of Participation
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Participation, the Engagement Officer (EO) will engage alumni, friends, parents and families of the University, assessing their capacity to support a myriad of opportunities within the University including, but not limited to, giving at both a leadership annual giving and major gift level, volunteering, mentoring, speaking to students, etc.
The EO will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward alumni, parents and friends of Adelphi University in an effort to leverage new opportunities with these constituencies.
The EO functions as a conduit, connecting constituencies with the areas of the University in which they have the greatest interest(s), and therefore can make the greatest impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Conduct a minimum of 200 qualification visits annually.
Solicit for a leadership annual gift ($1,000 or more), inquire if the individual has Adelphi University in their estate plans and assess the individual for major gift, volunteer, mentoring, internship, hosting special event capacity.
Support alignment of Advancement and External Relations strategies of fundraising and engagement to support overarching goals.
Identify all qualified candidates for and work collaboratively with Advancement and External Relations colleagues to place constituents in prominent volunteer roles.
Coordinate regular review of prospect list to prioritize as needed to ensure appropriate focus on the most likely leadership annual gift, major gift, and volunteer prospects. Build moves management strategies for each prospect in portfolio.
Act as a point of contact for Advancement to the University community for all Parent and Family related matters.
Identify emerging business trends with respect to Parent and Family advancement in higher education, assess best practice course of action for the University and implement programs accordingly under the guidance of the Director of Participation.
Work closely with University Advancement staff, directors, and other University representatives to create opportunities to build opportunities for qualified prospects to engage with the University.
Devise and implement strategies to educate current senior students about the important of participating in annual giving. Serve as the primary coordinator for the University's efforts to acquire senior student donors and to retain these donors post-graduation in an effort to develop lifelong giving habits.
Build and manage the University's annual Senior Legacy Campaign (senior class giving program) including creation of annual budget, timeline, calendar of appeals, and related programming.
Develop and manage programs to involve Recent Alumni (defined as undergraduate degree holders who graduated within the last 10 years). Acquire, retain, and steward first-time and renewed donors from this constituency.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, particularly in area of student, parent, family, graduating class, recent alumni, and friends a plus.
Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for obtaining face-to-face meetings.
Ability to clearly articulate Advancement and External Relations priorities.
Knowledge of social networking applications and strategies.
Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
Microsoft Office proficient.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals are essential.
Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.
Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective constituents and interact via telephone and in person with institutional representatives.
Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
Evening/weekend work is often required.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree, and minimum 2 years demonstrated successful engagement and/or advancement experience preferably in higher education (or a comparably complex organization). Preference will be given to candidates with engagement and/or advancement experience, particularly with a private college or university, with direct experience relating to parent and family and/or student programming and engagement activities
