Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Grants

Title Position Reports To: Vice President for University Advancement
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement and serving as a member of the Advancement senior management team, te Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Grants supports the work of University Advancement by identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding corporations, corporate foundations, private foundations and the State of New York as appropriate.
The Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Grants will be actively engaged in working to establish long-term partnerships and strengthen existing relationships with the corporate, foundation and state government sectors, as well as other key communities, which will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of the University.
The position provides the expertise to advance the University's interests by researching and identifying sources of support, proactively seeking opportunities to build relationships and to generate new proposals based on constituency guidelines and interests, and by maintaining strong relationships and communication ties with corporate and foundation donors and prospects as well as the proper state employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive, proactive development plan focused on expanding and enhancing corporate, foundation and state government relationships by directing and coordinating activities related to obtaining corporate, foundation and select state of New York monetary support.
Identify emerging business leadership and industry trends with a special emphasis on developing high value-exchange corporate alliances and identify, evaluate, cultivate and solicit philanthropic commitments to support the mission and goals of the University.
Work closely with University Advancement staff, directors, and other University representatives to create opportunities to build awareness among corporate, foundation and state government constituencies in order to build and significantly expand positive development relationships.
Advise faculty, administrators, and staff on corporate, foundation and government areas of interest.
Initiate opportunities for faculty, administrators, and deans to interact with corporate, foundation and state government prospects, program officers and employees respectfully while interpreting corporate, foundation and state government interests to University constituencies.
Work with faculty, administrators and deans to develop new approaches to corporations, foundations and state government contacts and coordinate these contacts to initiate the cultivation and development process.
Develop highly competitive proposals for corporate, foundation and state government prospects and leverage diverse corporate, foundation and state government goals and preferences in conjunction with University goals.
Maintain a rigorous schedule of contacts with corporate, foundation and state government representatives, creating moves management plans related to them, compelling presentations and comprehensive funding proposals.
Monitor proposal deadlines, prepare and edit proposals, and manage proposal submissions.
Secure grants.
Coordinate with University Advancement's Donor Relations Coordinator to ensure delivery of a high quality stewardship process for active corporate, foundation and state government funders. Ensure that stewardship and reporting requirements are met to sustain successful partnerships by maintaining detailed records of solicitation activities.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, particularly in area of corporate, foundation and state government development techniques required.
Demonstrated ability in diverse grant and proposal writing at appropriate levels.
Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for obtaining information about the giving programs of corporations, foundations and state government.
Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as individuals are essential.
Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.
Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors, and interact via telephone and in person with institutional representatives.
Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
Demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from corporations, foundations and state government
Evening/weekend work is often required.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree, and minimum 5-7 years demonstrated successful corporate and/or foundation and/or state government fundraising experience preferably in higher education (or a comparably complex organization).
A master's degree and experience in higher education fundraising are preferred.
Preference will be given to candidates with corporate and/or foundation and/or state government experience, particularly with a private college or university.
