Laboratory Animal Technician

Position Summary:
The Office of the University Veterinarian has an opening for a part time wage hourly Laboratory Technician. The person in this position provides daily care and husbandry of various species of laboratory animals maintained at the Central Vivarium. Duties include feeding, cleaning of and maintaining facility, and patient restraint. Receives animals, maintains required records, observes and reports on the health of the animals in his/her care. Provides assistance in preventative maintenance and repair of Vivarium equipment as needed/instructed.
Will have to work some weekends and holidays. Multiple positions may be hired from this posting.

Required Qualifications:
- Previous experience handling and restraining a wide variety of animals.
- Good communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize abnormal behavior and clinical signs in laboratory animals.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Preference given for AALAS certification at ALAT level or higher or eligible.
