Director of Strategic Planning

Position Summary:
The Director of Strategic Planning will work with colleges, departments, and units to create, develop, and communicate the University's strategic plan and the ongoing continuous planning process. The Director will support and coordinate the integration of the campus' diversity plan (as well as college and unit-level plans) into the university's plan and ensure widespread communication of the plans across the institution. This position reports to the Vice President of Strategic Affairs.
Position Responsibilities:
o Develop and monitor strategic, multi-year plans leveraging assets across the organization to actualize Virginia Tech's priorities and goals.
o Work with the Office of the Provost to align university's academic and administrative unit plans, objectives and metrics
o Support the development and integration of individual colleges/departments/units' strategic plans, including diversity plans, into the campus-wide strategic plan.
o Develop, lead and implement special projects expanding the impact and reach of Virginia Tech's strategy through innovation and creativity utilizing staff, plans, tools and other assets.
o Assist with the monitoring of strategic metrics and progress towards institutional and colleges/departments/units' organizational goals.
o Lead the University's continuous strategic planning process.
o Ensure coordination and alignment of strategic planning across executive units of the University.
o Ensure cohesive framework between campus' budget metrics, dashboards, and performance incentive budget model metrics for colleges and units.
o Collaborate to ensure effective communication of strategic plan with stakeholders.
o Coordinate the efforts of several cross-cutting working groups that might be formed to draft specific components of the plan.

Required Qualifications:
o Master's degree in a related field or a Bachelor's degree in a related field and significant experience and or training that may equate to an advanced degree.
o Considerable direct strategic planning experience at a complex organization.
o Proven project management skills, determining priorities, attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness.
o Experience with financial planning, budgets and strategic metrics in a college/university or an organization comparable to Virginia Tech.
o Excellent interpersonal skills with strong ability to influence others and build a collaborative environment.
o Ability to foster relationships with external allies, decision makers, and stakeholders; to work in both a team atmosphere and independently; and to meet internal and external demands in a fast-paced environment.
o Excellent communication skills for a wide range of audiences. A demonstrated record of inclusive leadership. Must be a strategic thinker with sound judgment and excellent political acumen.
o Strong quantitative and qualitative data analytics skills and an ease in synthetizing data into productive information. Superior ability to manipulate large, complex text-based data sets in a visual context that facilitates understanding and clear decision-making.
o Experience and a commitment to working in inclusive and diverse environments.

Preferred Qualifications:
o Master's or Doctorate is preferred.
