Accounting Manager-Grants

The Accounting Manager – Grants will be responsible for financial compliance, monitoring, and reporting of federal, state, local and private grants and contracts. The Accounting Manager - Grants will work closely with both the Finance Office and the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP). This position will also work with the Deans' and Provost's offices, each of which has responsibilities in the Grants process. This position requires an individual with extensive literacy in grants' regulations and compliance coupled with a desire to provide practical and timely financial and accounting assistance to academic administrators and faculty.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Policies and Compliance
• Monitor and review proposed grants and contracts for compliance with applicable University policy and federal and state regulations
• Identify applicable financial compliance matters in the grant life cycle - from proposal process through the final closeout of grants
• Provide assistance to OSP to ensure Principal Investigators (PIs) maintain compliance with University and funding agency policies during the grant's and contract's life cycle
• Maintain industry and regulatory knowledge with applicable government policies, statutes, and regulations; maintain relevant resource materials for OSP and Finance Office use
• Participate in policy discussions and recommend policy or procedural changes as appropriate; revise and update procedures as necessary

Monitoring, Reporting, and Administration
• Monitor budgets and grant expenditures for numerous grant-related accounts
• Prepare periodic and annual financial summary reports of grants and contracts activity
• Assist with resolution of contract or grant issues or interpretations
• Assist with grant and contract financial reporting under budget basis accounting, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and Council for advancement and support of education (CASE) standards

Communication, Collaboration, and Support
• Coordinate all activities between OSP and Finance Office on grant-related accounting matters and financial compliance issues
• Conduct training sessions for faculty regarding budget preparation, significant financial compliance matters and university policies regarding grant activity
• In accordance with University policies and in association with administrators and PIs, assist with technical grant language covering issues such as: cost-sharing, indirect cost rate, fringe benefits, and other similar matters
• Facilitate meetings with OSP, Finance, and PIs to discuss financial compliance, reporting, and accounting procedures and financial expectations for each grant award
• Assist OSP and Deans' offices in preparing periodic reminders regarding grant financial reporting deadlines, extension requests, and other financial and accounting requirements
• Provide assistance and guidance to faculty and staff in resolving grant-related budget and financial compliance issues

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
• Five or more years of grants management work experience at a university or similar institution
• Familiarity with government agency research administration systems including grants.gov, ACM$, SAM, ASAP and similar resources
• Experience and demonstrated success in helping faculty manage grants from NSF, NIH, NEH, and other government and private sources
• Practical experience with regulations and polices described in OMB circulars
• Demonstrated proficiency in use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analyses, fiscal management and reports
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to succeed in cultivating cross functional or multi-department teams
