Assistant Director, Aging Brain Initiative

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, AGING BRAIN INITIATIVE, Picower Institute for Brain Research, to work with the director and founding members to build the Aging Brain Initiative into a world-class enterprise. Will collaborate with the director on developing and shepherding the initiative's scientific, educational, and translational vision; direct and implement strategic planning for resource allocation, operational structures, and procedures; oversee and produce timely deliverables and accurate data reporting on progress and new strategic directions; prepare reports, presentations, outreach documents, grants, and fundraising proposals; organize scientific meetings, conferences, seminars, and events; partner on identifying strategic fund-raising priorities and secure funding; monitor finances; and perform other responsibilities as necessary.

The Aging Brain Initiative , led by Picower director Li-Huei Tsai, is an MIT-wide effort to understand dementia--why it begins and progresses and how we can stop it.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in neuroscience or related field with a background in neurodegenerative disease research (those with Ph.D.s in computer science or electrical engineering will also be considered); substantial direct experience working in the life sciences, clinical research, an industry setting, or management; minimum of five years' experience in an academic or research environment with oversight of strategic planning and the successful launch of a similar research endeavor; strong project management skills; initiative; commitment to contributing to the progress of science research by facilitating the work of others; superb written and verbal communication and presentation skills; and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must be able to keep teams, projects, and deliverables on track; think strategically; coordinate multiple tasks, set priorities, deliver results, and meet deadlines; exert influence, negotiate, and work across boundaries; and work independently and collaboratively.
