Faculty Opening: Nutrition/Health Instructor, Fitness, Wellness, & Sport Associate Degree Program

The Fitness, Wellness & Sport (FWS) Department of RVC is committed to providing accessible and affordable education and services of a high quality in a learner-centered environment that promotes diversity of programs, curricula, and student population. The mission of the FWS program is to provide quality offerings in the areas of career education, physical development and community outreach. The FWS Department offers programs leading to an Associate of Applied Sciences (A.A.S.) degree in Exercise Science or Sport Management and certificates in Personal Training and Coaching Education. The faculty members of the FWS program are committed to preparing graduates who are competent beginning professionals in fitness, sport, or recreation and who are able to transfer to a 4-year degree program in Exercise Science or Sport Management.

Conditions of Employment: This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position to begin January 2018. Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and group life insurance plans are offered and State Universities Retirement System (SURS) administered retirement plan.  Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Optional overload and summer teaching assignments are possible, depending upon availability. Flexibility in work schedule is necessary. Interest in serving a diverse student population is essential. 

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, Health Education/Promotion, or Exercise Science from an accredited college/university with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Nutrition/Dietetics or Health Education/Promotion.
  • Ability to teach multiple sections of college-level face-to-face and online introduction to Nutrition courses to mixed majors.
  • Ability to teach at least 2 of the following courses – Community Health, Contemporary Health Issues, Nutrition for Fitness & Sport, Human Sexuality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary teaching experience
  • Interest or expertise in alternate modes of instruction (i.e., hybrid and online classes)
  • Commitment to the mission of the community college and to high academic standards, as well as an interest in department and College initiatives
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with diverse student and staff populations

Selection Process
Applicants interview with a committee of department faculty. Final recommendation of a candidate will be submitted based on a rank order recommendation from the faculty committee. Final selection of a candidate will require an interview with the Dean and a recommendation of the Vice President of Academic Affairs/CAO.
