The University of Connecticut School of Law solicits applications for a law library director with tenure or tenure-track faculty status to commence in summer 2018 or earlier. The School of Law is the top-ranked public law school in the Northeast, with a nationally landmarked campus in Hartford near to the state capitol and courts as well as the headquarters of major corporations. The successful candidate will run the day-to-day operations of the law library, teach courses, advise students on independent projects as well as completing research in their academic areas of interest and publishing scholarship. As a member of the faculty, the successful candidate will participate in faculty management through committee work; participate in national organizations related to their area of research/scholarship interest; attend and speak at national, regional and local conferences and other events; work closely with other departments and faculty; and perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A JD from an accredited institution or equivalent terminal degree in a related field (equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable); a library degree from an accredited institution; substantial law library public services experience, including at least three years of progressively responsible administrative experience; background experience in technical services including cataloging and acquisitions or significant experience working collaboratively with technical services staff and systems; proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, students, staff and other members of the law school community and library users; demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring professional librarians and support staff; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal forms; collection development experience, including an understanding of and vision for the future direction of library collections; and experience teaching small groups or in a classroom setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in an academic or large institutional law library; experience teaching legal research and/or library workshops; evidence of active professional participation at the local and national level; experience managing or supervising employees in a unionized environment; demonstrated ability to support creative and entrepreneurial thinking in professional librarians and support staff; demonstrated ability to create and implement new developments in library services to build and enhance the library's position at the leading edge of librarianship and library services; a demonstrated understanding of how the changing landscape of legal education impacts the library and its role in the institution; ability to exercise sophisticated independent judgment; and demonstrated intellectual depth and facility with written expression; and a demonstrated ability to contribute through research, teaching, and public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the law school.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full time 11-month position. Salary and position rank will be commensurate with background, qualifications, and experience.
