Crisis Counselor

Position Summary:
The Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center invites applications for a Crisis Counselor. This is a full-time professional faculty appointment at our Blacksburg facility.
The Cook Counseling Center provides mental health services to the student community of Virginia Tech.
The Crisis Counselor works with a multidisciplinary staff to deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care.
The Crisis Counselor has responsibility for the following: provide individual services to students including initial assessment, diagnosis, and determination of treatment needs. They will conduct crisis interventions as needed; follow-up and track referrals for students with identified high risk needs; maintain full and accurate case notes for clients; attend court hearings for involuntarily hospitalized students; conduct mandatory assessments; and maintain private practitioner database.

Required Qualifications:
-Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field, experience in crisis intervention/emergency evaluation.
-Licensed as a mental health professional or license eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia (must be licensed within two years of hire).

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience in working in a college counseling center is desirable.
