Health and Physical Education Lecturer

The Health and Physical Education ( HPE ) program in the Human Movement Sciences Department at Old Dominion University is pleased to announce a full-time Lecturer position beginning in the fall semester of 2018. Responsibilities are to instruct HPE courses and serve as the Undergraduate Coordinator of the HPE program. Provide academic advisement, oversee the student HPE club, supervise internships and engage in student based service-learning experiences. Serve as the program liaison with Teacher Education Services and serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
Applicants should demonstrate an understanding of current HPE curricula, pedagogies, and teaching practices, as well as a strong commitment to professional service. Candidates should possess knowledge and skills to prepare SPA reports for CAEP / NASPE accreditations for teacher education programs. Candidates should also be able to teach secondary methods, motor development and learning, fitness education, and classroom management courses for HPE majors.

Minimum Qualifications - Education or training
Master's degree in physical education or related field with at least 18 credit hours of graduate level coursework in HPE .

Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification

Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree, evidence of previous successful college/university teaching experience including implementing and evaluating service-learning opportunities, and K-12 teaching experience in HPE . For applicants with a doctoral degree, teaching graduate courses is possible.

The HPE program's undergraduate curriculum is aligned Virginia initial teaching licensure requirements and is accredited by the NASPE / NCATE . The graduate program houses three master's level emphasis areas (curriculum & instruction, adapted physical education, and coaching education) as well as a doctoral program in Health & Sport Pedagogy.
