ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF COMMUNICATION

The Department of Communication at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication to support curriculum in the public relations and integrated media concentrations. This candidate will be expected to teach courses that support our curriculum, primarily our advertising campaigns, public relations principles, and public relations management. The candidate will also be expected to expand course offerings in advertising beyond the campaigns course, over time. Ability to teach media writing, public relations writing, and courses in social and digital media are preferred. The position is to begin August 2018.

This selected candidate will be expected to teach courses that support our curriculum, including but not limited to: advertising campaigns, public relations principles, public relations management, public relations campaigns, social/digital media, strategic media writing, and digital media production. Special consideration will be given to candidates whose skill sets include non-profit organizations, corporate communication, and research in media and strategic communication. The successful candidate will maintain a 4:4 teaching load per semester. Summer teaching is often available. An active program of research and/or creative projects is expected for tenure. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our recruiting efforts, our student organizations, and support our Non-Profit and Civic Engagement Center.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. completed prior to August 2018. Demonstrated strategic use of social and digital media is expected.

Applicants must have the ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements, in particular a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
