INTERNATIONAL ADMISSION SPECIALIST

Columbus State University has an opening for an International Admission Specialist in the Office of Admissions.  This position is a professional position that is responsible for performing a wide variety of admission functions for the University.  The primary function of this position is to be the Designated School Official (DSO) for Columbus State University and provide leadership and guidance for various student populations to include graduate, undergraduate, transient, and transfer admission processes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: managing and monitoring the work flow processes, data processing systems, application review, operation and application processing, and acting as liaison with each of the academic units and the Center for Global Engagement; supporting the admission process and implement operational processes that increase efficiency and effectiveness in the office and within other interdepartmental interactions; developing and updating enrollment reports for undergraduate students for Enrollment Services at Columbus State University; receiving applications for admission from prospective international students of all visa types, confirming the information provided is correct and if additional documentation is needed; evaluating credits, test scores, and other admission qualifications; and all other related duties as assigned. Admissions counseling for students and families, speaking engagements, and assisting with recruitment and orientation are required. Additionally, this position will assist with other admission processing categories. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director and is reviewed through reports, audit of files, and periodic evaluation of results.

Minimum qualifications include graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and some experience related to this class of work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate requires knowledge of admissions policies and procedures; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, administrators, faculty members and the general public; the ability to maintain accurate records, assemble and organize data, and to prepare reports; must have excellent written and oral communication skills; experience with computer databases and proficiency in Microsoft applications; evidence of cross-cultures sensitivity and experience interacting in a professional manner with people of diverse cultures; the flexibility and willingness to participate in international student services outside of normal business hours; strong organizational skills and high attention to detail; positive attitude; and the ability to provide advice, mentoring, and coaching. The selected candidate must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. lawful permanent resident per the Department of Homeland Security regulations as the position serves as the Designed School Official (DSO) for F-1 students and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 exchange visitors in the DHS Student and Exchange Visitors Information Systems (SEVIS).

The ability to speak a foreign language and at least one year of international experience is a plus.  Experience with Banner and SEVIS as well as serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) is a plus.  Knowledge of the student immigration process is desired.

The salary is commensurate with education and experience.
