Assistant Director for Admissions and Recruitment

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Virginia Tech Language and Culture Institute ( VTLCI ) Director, the Assistant Director for Admissions and Recruitment plans, implements, and administers the program designed to target, recruit, evaluate and admit students to the VTLCI and ultimately Virginia Tech (VT). Core responsibilities of this position include:
- Develops and maintains an extensive network of national and international referral sources such as cultural missions, educational representatives and high school counselors.
-Administers and coordinates the conditional admission program and application process for the VTLCI . Through this program, students who otherwise meet university admission requirements but do not meet the minimum English language requirements and may not yet have taken the SAT , are offered conditional admission status at the university pending their successful completion of English and test requirements. These requirements are typically met in the process of a student's studies at VTLCI .
- Reviews conditional admission applications, evaluates submitted materials, develops admission recommendations, and generates reports as needed.
- Develops and executes data driven international recruitment plans to support goal of attracting an academically talented and diverse student population to VTLCI and VT.
- Plans all aspects of and participates in domestic and international recruitment fairs as well as high school visits and training of educational representatives.
- Counsels and advises prospective students, families, and organizations/institutions regarding educational opportunities at VTLCI and VT, admission procedures, university policies, and entrance requirements.
- Serves a liaison with various internal and external constituencies as appropriate to include students, parents, school officials and offices, governmental organizations, and various external agencies.
- Investigates and responds to inquiries from students and advisers on recruitment, admissions, and retention issues.
- May supervise one or more employees.
Note: This position will require some evening and weekend work with extensive international travel (i.e. four to six months a year), along with some local and national travel.

Required Qualifications:
-Master's degree in business, educational administration, international education or a related field.
-Previous experience working in an admissions setting.
-Previous experience working in a higher education environment.
-Ability and willingness to travel overseas up to 50% of the time.

-Experience working with diverse populations.
-Demonstrated organizational skills to accommodate multiple priorities.
-Exemplary intercultural competency, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with individuals and large groups.
-Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and standard office computer functions such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, and internet navigation.
-Proficiency in a second language, such as Chinese and/or Arabic.
