Patient Services Specialist

This position is responsible for greeting patients, students and visitors that come into the Student Health Center to include answering the telephone, providing information and resources, quickly and accurately deciding on the urgency of a student's need for medical treatment and act upon that decision when the student first enters the SHC , registering patients and determining eligibility for services through registration status, checking out patients, assisting students with immunization requirements, and supporting health information system functions. This position is also providing coverage for front office personnel as needed in their absence and providing technical assistance to students using on-line student health services. Given the nature of the positions in Student Engagement & Enrollment Services that provide support to student services and/or student-centered programs, the employee occupying this position may be required to work during a university closing. There may be occasions where the employee will be asked to work during university closings as directed by his or her supervisor. These instances may include working from a remote location (i.e. telework, etc.).

Working knowledge of health care terms and confidentiality of protected health information. Working knowledge of effective customer service and problem-solving techniques. Demonstrated skill in PC-related software and data entry. Effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated skill in making judgments to determine the appropriate questions such as when gathering patient information.
Demonstrated ability to positively interact with a diverse population, work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team, and readily adapt to a rapidly changing office environment. Demonstrated ability to show attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks despite frequent interruptions. Demonstrated ability to organize work priorities to meet specific objectives and deadlines. Demonstrated ability to make decisions based on established criteria and employing effective problem-resolution techniques.

Level and type of experience
Some experience providing customer service in an office setting. Some experience with data entry and the maintance of paper and electronic filing systems.

Preferred knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification
Annual CPR Certification or the ability to become certified within one year of employment. (Training will be provided)
Associate degree in business or related field preferred. Medical Assistant training helpful. Some experience in a healthcare environment. Some medical front office experience preferred. Some skill in using an electronic medical record system.

Conditions of Employment
Full-time 11 month position paid over 12 months; Monday through Friday with some evenings until 7pm.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate
Salary range between $ - 25,718 - $28,299
