Job Summary:
This position fills a variety of needs in the Public Access department focusing primarily on the day-to-day operations of Circulation. The Department is responsible for the hiring, scheduling, training and supervision of a large and diverse student workforce. The Assistant is on the front lines of the library, interacting with a variety of constituencies (faculty, staff, students, alums, guests, and the public), applying a complex and evolving set of policies and guidelines, and providing access to an array of materials (books, periodicals, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays) and various equipment related to the use of those materials. The Public Access Assistant must be fluent with many systems that enable proper operation of the library; including circulation modules, public catalogs, reserve systems, shelf holds, shelf-check software, remote barcode readers, security alarms, lighting, public address systems, room reservations systems, ConnectNY, and interlibrary loan systems.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of coursework and experience. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to manage several projects simultaneously, and work in an organized manner with emphasis on detail and accuracy. Candidates must display a demonstrated ability for independent work and good judgment in decision making. Computer skills are required, as well as a commitment to flexibility and collaboration in a team environment. Excellent customer service skills are essential. Library experience preferred. Must be able to perform moderately demanding physical work related to book stacks maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience supervising students in an academic library Public Services department.

Pay Range:
$16.00 - $17.00 per hour commensurate with experience. Internal candidates may fall outside of this range and should contact Nancy Bruno with any individual questions.
