Director of Engagement, Pamplin College of Business

Position Summary:
The Director of Engagement's primary role is the strategic oversight and relationship management with the college's advisory boards, providing leadership and support to college activities surrounding planning, organization, execution, and communication of internal and external events, including signature Pamplin community events involving students, alumni and friends, and other assignments in support of strategic goals and objectives of the college. Responsibilities will also include supervision of the college's Director of Alumni Relations and the Events Coordinator. The Director of Engagement is responsible for overseeing the alumni engagement programs within Pamplin College of Business, representing Pamplin College Advancement on the Alumni Association Constituency Team, attending the Alumni Association Board of Directors meetings, and representing the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech Alumni Association staff meetings and retreats.
As designated by the Dean and Assistant Dean for Advancement and in conjunction with the appropriate offices, works on selected issues with external groups and individuals on behalf of the Dean. Assists in relationship building with various institutional leadership. This is to include serving as the contact for the Pamplin Advisory Council ( PAC ); Pamplin Society; Recent Alumni Board ( RAB ); MIT Advisory Board and managing all related meetings, receptions and banquets.
The successful candidate must be flexible to perform job related responsibilities beyond the normal work day during evenings and weekends as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
• Extensive volunteer management, individual donor cultivation, and/or client relationship experience.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters, to prepare planning documents, position papers and reports.
• Strong collaborative leadership style and team-building skills.
• Effectively interface diplomatically with diverse constituencies in a highly professional manner.
• Experience with a variety of computer software applications in calendar management, word processing and spreadsheets (such as MSWord, Excel, Power Point, and MS Outlook).
• Proven commitment to a high level of customer service and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with executive management and a multitude of diverse constituents, internal and external to the university, with particular skill in the effective resolution of complex, sensitive issues.
• Experience in developing and managing conferences, workshops, or special events while providing excellent customer service.
• Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree and significant experience in business development settings within the private sector and/or higher education advancement.
• Willingness to travel.
• The successful candidate will be self-motivated and have the ability to work as a team member in a complex organization

Preferred Qualifications:
• Business experience and/or experience in business colleges.
• Experience managing volunteer boards and/or individual donors.
• Familiarity with Virginia Tech a plus.
• Broad-based knowledge of university and/or state policies and procedures
• Experience with budget plans, financial reports, invoicing and payments.
