Position Summary:
Reporting to a Preventive Maintenance Supervisor, the Trades/Utilities Master Mechanic maintains, inspects, services and repairs electrical and mechanical equipment in assigned academic building. This position troubleshoots and repairs any mechanical or electrical failures, responds to trouble calls to shutdown equipment and make repairs in a safe manner, and inspects buildings for safety hazards and repair as needed. Position is designated Emergency Personnel, which requires employees to report to work during emergency situations and closings.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience at the journey level in electrical and mechanical trades in an industrial, commercial or institutional trades environment.
- Working knowledge of blueprints, technical drawings and/or sketches.
- Record-keeping experience.
- Valid drivers' license.
- Ability to learn and use the computerized Facilities work order system to enter time, obtain, create and edit work orders, and request materials.
- Must have excellent communication skills, be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace, have good team work skills and work independently without direct supervision.
- Ability to safely move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more; maneuver materials up and down stairs; climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds; work in awkward positions and in confined spaces; and work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
- May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department.
- Must be willing and able to wear a respirator.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current Virginia Journey or Masters level license in either the electrical or plumbing trade.
