Clinical Counselor


Brief Summary:

The Clinical Counselor provides clinical services and support for students experiencing mental health and emotional issues that compromise their personal growth and academic success, It also entails developing and implementing education and prevention programs and cultivating collaborative partnerships with students, faculty and staff to promote campus-wide health, wellness and multicultural awareness.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally competent individual counseling intake assessments and triage evaluations.
  • Conduct culturally competent group counseling.
  • Provide emergency daytime coverage for students in acute crisis to assess triage needs, arrange hospital intervention, if needed; consult with involved professionals, college staff and families when indicated.
  • Provide consultations to faculty, staff, students, families and administration on student behavioral and mental health concerns through phone and in-person contacts and participation in campus-wide committees.
  • Assist in developing and implementing prevention and outreach services for mental health awareness, suicide prevention, sexual violence education and other areas .Collaborate and liaison with faculty, staff, students, administration and community providers to promote campus-wide health, wellness and multicultural awareness.
  • Maintain current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with legal, ethical and professional guidelines and Counseling Services policies using Titanium Schedule electronic record.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Social Work required, Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, from an APA-accredited doctoral program and internship preferred.
  • Licensed or license-eligible in New York State (within year of assuming position).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in individual and group counseling, preferably in a college counseling center or with a college-age or graduate school population.
