Program Assistant, CLSC

PAY GRADE: 28N

CONTEXT OF JOB:

This is a grant funded position.

The Center for Disabilities Studies (CDS) is the largest research and public service center in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Delaware. It provides a leadership role in promoting the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in all aspects of society. The Center accomplishes this through education, service, information dissemination and research.

Under the limited supervision of the Program Manager of the Career & Life Studies Certificate (CLSC), a two-year inclusive post-secondary education program for adults with intellectual disabilities, the Program Assistant, CLSC organizes campus engagement initiatives and facilitates connections and supports for CLSC students and staff, coordinates the on-campus residential component of CLSC, and functions as the general liaison to other student life and student support staff and activities. The Program Assistant will assist in the delivery of workshops and course modules and provide individualized coaching that respond to students' identified goals in accordance with their person-centered plan.

The Program Assistant also supports the Summer CLSC program, an initiative in which high school students identify, explore and communicate transition goals post-high school. In this role, the person assists in the creation and implementation of all facets of program delivery, which occur periodically over a 10-month period and include person-centered planning, career and higher education exploration and a one-week on-campus residential summer experience.

This position requires interaction and collaboration with program staff, students with disabilities and their family members, university staff and members of the community who support student participants.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under the direction of the CLSC Program Manager, serves as the day-to-day contact and liaison for CLSC student participation in campus life initiatives.
  • Assists in delivering course modules and workshops to students enrolled in the Career and Life Studies Certificate (CLSC) program.
  • Provides individualized coaching support to students enrolled in the program and co-facilitates the creation and modification of person-centered plans.
  • Coordinates residence life activities including the Living Learning Community.
  • Assists in the creation of course materials.
  • Implements the Summer CLSC Program and supervises program mentors.
  • With the CLSC Program Manager, assists in the recruitment, training and supervision of UD undergraduate hourly staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Facilitates collaborative relationships with campus and community partners.
  • Maintains a system for tracking student and program process.
  • Performs data collection related to student assessment and performance.
  • Supports general processes within associated programs, such as admissions, program marketing, student advisement and other general support.
  • Maintains policies and procedures manuals for respective elements of assigned projects.
  • Supports the development of program summaries to funding sources, grant proposals to conduct future post-secondary education initiatives.
  • Engages in support role with families as necessary.
  • Participates in center-wide activities with CDS, including submission of project-specific data to the NIRS database.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma/GED with five years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • High energy and effective time management working within structured time lines.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to develop and maintain confidential files and records.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and to work within a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to drive to off-campus locations.
