Specialist - Research-Fixed Term


Position Summary
The Department of Forestry at Michigan State University is seeking an Academic Specialist Research to lead or assist with all phases of research in a group focused on forest ecology in temperate and tropical forests. The Academic Specialist is expected to author or co-author publications, lead collaborative research in new directions, and pursue additional research funding based on existing databases of temperate and tropical tree dynamics. The Academic Specialist also will oversee field experiments and management of databases, analyze and interpret data in a modeling framework (Bayesian and Maximum Likelihood), provide oversight of laboratory analysis of plant and soil samples, assist in funding agency reporting, supervise undergraduate assistants, assist in mentoring/advising graduate students, and serve on graduate student committees. The position is approximately 60% research, 25% data management, and 15% administrative. The position is a 12-month, fixed-term position with annual renewals available depending on satisfactory performance and continued funding availability.

Minimum Requirements
Earned M.S. in Statistics, Modelling, Forestry or Ecology. Expertise in managing large & complex datasets, modeling experience using Bayesian and/or Maximum Likelihood approaches, familiarity with R and/or other programming languages, strong writing skills, good verbal presentation skills, and experience in mentoring and supervising students.

Earned PhD in Statistics, Modelling, Forestry or Ecology
