Financial Assistant II

FINANCIAL ASSISTANT II, Biological Engineering, to join BE headquarters' financial team, performing complex and comprehensive financial management of sponsored activities. The Department of Biological Engineering is an academic and research organization with a research volume of over $50M. Will provide administrative financial support to BE faculty, staff, and students; assist with pre- and postaward research proposal activities; monitor the daily financial performance of grants and contracts to ensure adherence to agency and MIT policies; assist with financial and budgeting support including account reconciliations, account projections, financial analysis and forecasting, personnel/payroll activities (i.e., salary distributions, EDACCA certification, cost sharing); and assist other team members as needed. Will interact with MIT's Office of Sponsored Programs and Office of the Vice President for Finance and report directly to the administrative officer and indirectly to the senior research financial officer.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years' related financial, accounting, and grants management experience, preferably in a university environment; self-motivation; attention to detail; customer service orientation; strong interpersonal skills and ease with telephone and in-person contacts; strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills; proficiency with Excel and Word; good judgment, tact, and discretion with sensitive/confidential information; and willingness to assume new responsibilities as needed. Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines; work independently and as part of a team; take initiative to implement and/or improve established financial processes in support of the operational area; and handle large volumes of work on a daily basis despite many interruptions. Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. Experience with FastLane, Grants.gov., Kuali COEUS, and SAP also preferred. Job #14945-5reposted 12/20/17
