Specialist - Teacher-Fixed Term


Position Summary
The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Michigan State University seeks a Food Science Academic Specialist (teaching). This position is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term appointment at the level of academic specialist (teaching). This is an annual appointment which is renewable contingent on availability of funds and needs. The position is open until filled. The specialist will provide teaching and laboratory management support for the Food Chemistry Laboratory (FSC 402), Food and Nutrition Laboratory (FSC 455) and Food Processing: Cereals Laboratory (FSC 431).

Responsibilities will include teaching and some management, maintenance, and oversight of laboratory equipment, supplies and materials for laboratory facilities associated with the three courses. The position will involve significant team work. The specialist will conduct research in the Cereal Science Laboratory in the summer months. In addition, the specialist will also be required to assist with other courses and duties as needed in the department.

Minimum Requirements
Education: A Master's degree in food science, nutritional sciences, chemistry, or related field, or the equivalent in education and experience.

Experience: Laboratory expertise in effectively operating a variety of analytical instruments.

Excellent academic record. Strong writing, research, and communication skills. Successful organizational, time management,and project management skills. Ability to work in a team as well as independently. Effective communication skills with students in a teaching setting and supervising graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants.
