Job Description
As an Academic Advisor you will advise students; participate in course and/or curriculum development; involvement on College and University committees and/or initiatives; as well as duties as assigned. Florida Gulf Coast University is a comprehensive university dedicated to quality education, research, and service.

Teaching assignments may be on the main campus or at off-campus sites within our region.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution.
Two years of experience in an academic advising environment or related area in higher education.
Must meet University and College criteria for appointment to the level of Academic Advisor I.
SPECIAL NOTE : Current FGCU employees appointed as Academic Advisor (Level I or II) may apply for this vacancy. If a current FGCU Academic Advisor (Level I or II) is selected for the position, it will be at his/her current appointment level (I or II) and is not considered a promotion.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Advising, Counseling, Education, Administration or a discipline supported by the College from an accredited institution.
Two years of appropriate experience at an institution of higher education.
Experience with student information systems (e.g. Banner).
Experience working with a diverse student population.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Excellent planning and organizing skills with specific attention to details.
Ability to work in a diverse environment and as a collegiate team member.
Knowledge of and willingness to use information technology.
Knowledge of student information systems.
Knowledge and experience in the use of technology including distance learning and university teaching.
Ability to collaborate both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning.
Ability to value continued scholarship and service to the school and University.

Salary Range
$36,000 - $37,500

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties
Advises students in regards to admission criteria, degree sequencing, course scheduling, University policies and graduation requirements.
Uses Banner, Gulfline, and Microsoft Office programs to complete advising tasks.
Assists with the ongoing development and implementation of academic advising procedures, student recruitment and retention, and counseling referral guidelines.
Interacts with faculty in the disciplines and with other advisors in the college and throughout the University.
Participates in various recruitment, orientation, and advising activities.
