CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) engages donors, alumni, friends, parents, faculty, staff and students in a lifelong relationship and fosters a tradition of philanthropy to strengthen the University of Delaware's legacy as one of the great public institutions of higher education in America.

We are currently hiring an Assistant Director , who both report to the Associate Director for Donor Relations and is responsible for specific stewardship activities and strategies through self-designed and self-directed program plans, organization and implementation. Through these responsibilities, the Assistant Director supports the University's overall donor relations efforts to increase fundraising activity.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees content development and date management for annual reports to donors; responsible for integrity and organization of data, follow up with University units and fund beneficiaries as well as the review and verification of fund financials, including book and market values.

  • Creates, develops and implements processes for outreach to fund beneficiaries setting expectations regarding participation in stewardship activities.

  • Manages data collection for production of annual stewardship report, which includes proofing and assembly of more than 700 final reports to donors of endowed funds.

  • Determines criteria for the ordering, receipt and integrity of beneficiary data for all stewarded funds. Ensures all funds have appropriate recipients, working with Student Financial Services, Colleges, various departments and Athletics until all funds awarded.

  • Oversees the process by which scholarship donors notified of their scholarship beneficiaries and outlines the annual stewardship cycle.

  • Creates, identifies and approves content for electronic newsletters and other donor relations communication pieces.

  • Manages data and privileges for the University's lifetime giving societies, reserved for the most committed donors designed to exhibit gratitude and encourage further giving. Oversees reporting, recognition and communication pieces and manages the creation or production of customized stewardship pieces for these donors.

  • Develops personalized stewardship items for our most generous donors as based on the stewardship matrix and individualized stewardship plans in addition to requests from gift officers and the President. Manages the creation, production and tracking of these items as a way to deepen the engagement of the donor to the University by expressing continued appreciation and encourage further philanthropic support.

  • Develops opportunities for recognition, engagement and stewardship for particular donors based on strategies for milestone recognition.

  • Oversees gift agreement completion-process to ensure accuracy of data into database while providing accurate recordkeeping of closed gifts in order to provide appropriate stewardship to major gift donors.

  • Researches and provides gift and fund history, financials, donor background, etc. on requests from gift officers and leadership in order to provide stewardship and advance gift conversations. Works independently with University Finance and with Gifts and Record Management to track fund balances, explore histories, and obtain gift documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree and three years of job-related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in donor relations, annual giving, alumni relations or administration within higher education. Creativity, strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects on tight deadlines. Strong writing, research, and project management skills. Ability to work with a team as well as independently. Excellent word processing skills. Working knowledge of Excel and Access preferred. Knowledge of University of Delaware academic programs is a plus.
