Program Director of Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS)

Old Dominion University invites application for a 10-month full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the School of Community and Environmental Health, with the primary responsibility in the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences Program ( BSHS ) as program director. The BSHS has two concentrations: Public Health and Health Services Administration. Incoming faculty will be expected to maintain an active program of research, teaching, and service in health sciences and/or public health. The position reports to the Chair of the School of Community and Environmental Health in the College of Health Sciences. Opportunities also exist for mentoring and teaching doctoral and master students in Old Dominion University.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
Specific minimum qualifications center on experience in undergraduate-level teaching related to public health/health science or closely related areas are required. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active program of undergraduate teaching/advising and research, publication, and pursuit of external research funding. Appointment requires a record of research in a public health- or health science-related area. As demonstrated through teaching, research, service and/or professional experience, minimum attributes of the ideal candidate include: (1) current knowledge of the public health/health sciences fields; (2) experience advising and mentoring undergraduate students in health science/public health; (3) knowledge of current CEPH accreditation process and requirements; (4) experience mentoring undergraduate research; (5) experience with curriculum development, monitoring, and evaluation; (6) undergraduate teaching experience using hybrid and online formats; (7) demonstrated independence and organizational skills; (8) demonstrated ability to work with others and across departments; and (9) excellent oral and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications - Education or training
A terminal degree is required. An earned doctorate in a public health- or health science-related discipline (e.g., public health, health promotion, health services research, health services administration) or a closely related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the minimum qualifications, preferred attributes of the ideal candidate include: (1) experience as a program director or administrator; (2) experience coordinating practicum/internship placements and/or field experience; (3) experience teaching diverse student populations and non-traditional students; (4) ability to work well in a collegial environment with a variety of stakeholders; and (5) research expertise in a public health/health science domain including, but not limited to: health policy & management; health administration & leadership; community health; business or organizational administration; healthcare law or finance; vulnerable population health; program evaluation; global health; or behavioral health.
