Job Summary
Coordinate student loan programs, including determining eligibility, certifying, correcting rejected files, administer loan counseling, default management, awarding and reconciliation of loan funds between several departments. Counsel students and parents on all sources of educational funding through financial awareness seminars.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Related duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and maintain a broad and detailed understanding of all financial aid programs and services.
  • Provide counseling to students and parents regarding all aspects of financial aid both in person, at the counter, group presentations and via telephone, including collecting and interpreting required documentation and effectively communicating decisions.
  • Advise and assist students in completing forms and understanding available sources of assistance.
  • Coordinate student loan processing (Federal and Private/Alternative) including the collection of forms, verification of entrance/exit counseling, student eligibility, certification process, awarding, and insure monthly and annual reconciliation is completed.
  • Review application information and supporting documentation to assure completeness of documents.
  • Research and resolve any discrepancies in various loan accounts (GL, COD, student record, etc).  May include communications with IT, Accounts Receivable, Finance Department, Department of Education and students.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and guidelines set forth by Federal, State and RVC policies, as well as, adherence to industry best practices that result in timely awards and disbursement of loan funds.
  • Create and maintain KPI information on students and loans.
  • Monitor student enrollment throughout the semester for exit counseling.
  • Develop and maintain a default management program for RVC. Includes, but not limited to, reviewing monthly default/delinquency reports and contacting students.
  • Assist the Financial Aid Program Manager in annual set up and testing of the Colleague system as it pertains to loan processing.
  • Assist with the development and coordination of RVC Financial Literacy Program(s).
  • Present loan information to small or large groups, or to individuals as appropriate.
  • Assist with maintaining office policies and procedures manual and assist the Director in the review and establishment of policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Interpret and communicate federal, state, and institutional policies, regulations, and procedures as it relates to student financial aid matters.
  • Attend appropriate conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • Effectively use organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through.
  • Must use analytical thinking to problem solve.
  • Must be able to create and maintain various Microsoft Excel spreadsheets; MS Access proficiency is desirable.
  • Regular attendance is expected.
  • Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other related degree preferred. Prefer completed coursework equivalent to the following RVC courses: Intro to Accounting (106), Financial Accounting (110), Managerial Accounting (111), and Microcomputer Spreadsheet Applications in Accounting (120). Proven track record in account reconciliation. Minimum three years in post-secondary education desired, specifically in a Financial Aid Office and/or loan processing environment. Effectively use interpersonal and communication skills including tact and diplomacy to develop and maintain working relationships with students and staff of all levels. Comply with federal and state regulations. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA regulations. Must be comfortable speaking before groups. Experience with Colleague desirable. Must have excellent customer service skills.
