Duties and Responsibilities
Loyola University Chicago, College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Philosophy invites applications for an Instructor (non-tenure track, one-year appointment) beginning August 15, 2017. The Department serves undergraduate majors and minors and has a doctoral program in Philosophy as well as two terminal masters programs: one in Philosophy and one in Social Philosophy. Duties and Responsibilities: Duties will include teaching at the undergraduate level in the University Core Program. The expected teaching load for this position is 8 undergraduate courses per year (four per semester), typically with 2 new course preparations per semester.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
A completed Ph.D. by August 2017 is strongly preferred. The area of specialization is open, but successful candidates will be able and willing to teach the foundational Philosophy core course on Philosophy and Persons ( PHIL 130) as well as a foundational Core course in Ethics ( PHIL 181 or PHIL 182). Previous successful experience teaching of these courses is highly preferred.

Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and have a record of (or clear potential for) student mentorship. The incumbent must also be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education.
