DENTAL - - ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS

Job Description: The Associate Dean for Student Affairs (ADSA) is a key member of the School of Dental Medicine's senior leadership team and has oversight for all student-related activities and programs.

The ADSA is responsible for developing, supervising, coordinating and linking the goals and activities of admissions (recruitment, admissions processing, new student orientations, student records) and student services (student advising, student advocacy, student governance, student organizations and convocation) with the other strategic priorities and missions of the School of Dental Medicine.

Overall responsibilities for the ADSA include student recruitment, admission, and matriculation of a student body that reflects the diversity of the state of North Carolina; student support and advocacy throughout the time of enrollment; facilitation of a humanistic and inclusive learning environment for all students; and transition to postdoctoral training and practice.

In each of these strategic areas, the ADSA assures full alignment with the vision of the ECU School of Dental Medicine in educating leaders with a passion to serve as primary care dentists in rural and underserved communities across the State of North Carolina.

The ADSA provides leadership and mentoring for the members of the Student Affairs team: Director of Admissions, Director of Student Services, Director of Counseling and Student Development, Student Financial Support Manager, administrative support staff and student workers.

Works with the Director of Admissions in overseeing the recruitment activities and admissions operations for the SoDM, and developing additional, recruitment programs focused on the rich diversity of the state of North Carolina, and investigating grants and other funding resources for supporting these programs.

The ADSA's role in the admissions process includes general operational oversight, preliminary review of all applications, and serving as Chair of the Admissions Committee.

Collaborates with the Director of Student Services in overseeing student communications and activities, including student government and organizations, student housing, and student related events (e.g., orientation, graduation).

The ADSA chairs the Student Affairs Committee and serves as an advocate for students who are facing a wide range of personal and professional challenges and assures their ready access to resources.

Works with the Director of Counseling and Student Development in maximizing each student's academic success and retention, and in supporting student development.

Collaborates with the Student Financial Support Manager in assuring that students understand the financial investment in their education and have the understanding to practice in a manner and setting that aligns with the vision and mission of the SoDM.

Additionally, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs represents the SoDM in interfacing with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

In addition to administrative duties, the ADSA has the opportunity to participate in faculty roles of teaching, scholarly pursuits and providing patient care.

The Associate Dean for Student Affairs works closely with the other administrative team members including department chairs, associate/assistant deans, program directors, and University and System colleagues.

The ADSA reports to directly to the Dean of the SoDM.


Minimum Qualifications: DDS or DMD degree from CODA-accredited institution.

Eligibility for dental licensure in North Carolina

Five years of full-time experience in dental education
