Job Description: Dabney S. Lancaster Community College is seeking a dynamic instructor who can lead the Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Technology Program. The E&I Technology program meets the demand for trained technicians employed in manufacturing environments. Students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex automated systems. The DSLCC program includes a strong focus on industrial electricity and instrumentation technology. Students may complete academic awards at the career studies, certificate or associate of applied science degree level.

The Program Head/Instructor is responsible for classroom and lab instruction; providing quality instruction for a diverse student population; and performing instructional duties and responsibilities in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the college.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned Electrical and Instrumentation courses and associated labs in accordance with college's workload policy; provide students with course materials including syllabus, grading/attendance policy, and other relevant information in a timely manner; post and maintain office hours; participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes; establish, maintain and submit accurate student and instructional records in a timely manner.
  • Oversee department budget; purchase lab equipment and consumables; maintain equipment and supply inventory.
  • Serve on and lead activities of the DSLCC Electrical and Instrumentation Program Advisory Committee; serve on college committees as assigned; collaborate with the VP of Academic Affairs to review and maintain the integrity of program curriculum.
  • Participate in annual assessment reporting; develop and review course curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools; review and update course outlines.
  • Support student recruitment and retention, including academic advisement of program students and outreach to potential students; evaluate transfer credentials and courses related to Electrical and Instrumentation Technology Program; refer students to college support staff for appropriate assistance.
  • Participate in discussions with college administrators and officials at other institutions of higher education for the establishment of college and career pathways for DSLCC graduates seeking further study at or beyond the baccalaureate level
  • Integrate knowledge of industry trends and professional training to improve program quality
  • Maintain awareness of current and emerging industry credentials required for employment
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with industries; assist in arranging field experiences and internships for program students; collaborate with college, community and area high schools; work with other staff in support of the Electrical and Instrumentation Technology Program.
  • Oversee adjuncts at all instructional sites, including faculty serving dually enrolled high school students and faculty on DSLCC Clifton Forge Campus and/or selected courses held at other sites as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, Engineering, or similar Advanced Manufacturing field, OR
  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree, an Associate's degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, Engineering or similar Advanced Manufacturing field may be considered with extensive industry experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of curriculum and program development
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Skill in instructing students from diverse culture and/or backgrounds
  • Skill in integrating technology into curriculum
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to analyze problems, identifies solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems while following college policies and procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students and the public

Organizational Relationship:

  • Report to the Vice President of Academic Affairs

Special Conditions: This is a 10-month restricted (grant-funded) position.

Salary level extended and future employment is contingent upon continued grant funding.

Contract begins August 1 through May 31. Position to be filled August 1, 2017.
